What is Work Sampling?

Work sampling is one of the work measuring approaches similar to time study with stop watch and data synthetics utilizing PMTS (Pre-determined Motion and Time Systems). The quantity of time spent in productive way(for example, sewing) or support tasks can also be determined through work sampling.

In other words, Work sampling is a technique for determining the prevalence of a particular activity through the statistical sample and random observations.

To get a thorough and accurate look at the amount of time a production machine spends working and when it is stopped, one must continually monitor the machines in the designated area, noting when the machines are turned off.

It would be impossible to accomplish this without people devoting the majority of their time to it - a wholly implausible scenario.

80% of machines are in use, while 20%  of them are shut off. If this happened multiple times every day, and if every time 80% of the machines were operational, it would be accurate to state that the machines were working on a consistent basis.
