What is Line Layout in Apparel Industry?

What is line layout?

Layout is a form of facility setup where the workstations and equipment are located and arranged. 

Sewing line layout is a facility setup where sewing machines and all required equipment are located and arranged along the line of production.

Most garments manufacturing industry uses the assembly-line system for making garments. By this system, sewing machines and other required equipment are arranged according to process sequence. Sometimes a center table is placed between two rows of machines. Garments bundle are loaded from the input area of line and push forward from one workstation to another workstation after completing the particular process. After completing all process, final outputs come output from the line.

Line Layout Design

Preparation of paper layout indicates designing a line diagram in a paper. It shows the following things-

✔ Workflow from start to end

✔ Machine location in the layout

✔ Process sequence

Below picture is a Layout for a basic T-shirt. Here rectangular box indicates the machines, Two yellow box indicate the input and output area, thin arrows indicate the process sequence. A paper layout is made by following the operation bulletin
